JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Two Palestinian gunmen killed an Israeli and wounded six others Sunday evening in an attack on Israeli village of Moshav Gadish, near the boundary with the West Bank, police said.

Israeli soldiers and police killed the attackers in an exchange of gunfire near Afula in northern Israel.

It was one of several deadly clashes Sunday:

• Israeli soldiers killed two gunmen and were searching for a third near Israel's border with Egypt, according to Palestinian sources in Gaza. Israeli military sources said the gunmen infiltrated the area. Israeli television said one Israeli soldier died in the incident.

• Palestinian sources said Israeli helicopters fired three missiles at a car in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The missiles -- apparently aimed at Hamas suspects -- missed their target, killing two Palestinian teenagers and injuring a third, the sources said. The men in the car escaped. The Israel Defense Forces said it was checking the report.

• The military wing of Hamas, Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on the southern Israeli town of Sderot. It fired three Qassam rockets from Gaza, injuring an Israeli, said the IDF. Qassam rockets are crude, homemade rockets with a range of up to five miles (eight kilometers). The rocket attack occurred hours after Israeli forces launched military operations in Palestinian-controlled Gaza late Saturday. The U.S. State Department has designated Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic fundamentalist group, as a terrorist organization. Izzedine al Qassam has admitted responsibility for terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and the Israeli military.

• In Hebron, a 27-year-old Palestinian was killed on the street by a Jewish settler, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said. Israeli military sources said the victim was Hasem Fanun, a Hamas activist shot after Israeli civilian security guards returned fire toward a group of armed Palestinians. The Israelis were guarding a truck delivering a gas tanker, IDF said.
