(CNN) -- Forty years ago, on a sunny November morning, the crack of a sniper's rifle brought a sudden and dramatic end to the life of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

Have Your Say

The assassination in Dallas, Texas, was one of the first global breaking news stories in the television age.

Developments in worldwide communications meant that the shocking news traveled around the world almost instantaneously -- a fact we are well used to today, but which was groundbreaking in 1963.

Such was the impact of the assassination and the speed with which the news and television images spread around the world that it is said anyone alive at the time remembers where they were when they heard the president was shot.

As the 40th anniversary of the assassination nears, CNN.com wants to hear your recollections of where you were and how you heard the news.

On November 22, the anniversary, we will publish a selection from around the world.
