LONDON, England (CNN) -- A British man has appeared in a London court on charges of conspiring with convicted shoe bomber Richard Reid to cause a life-threatening explosion.
Sajid Badat, 24, spoke only to confirm his name at Bow Street magistrates' court Thursday. He is accused of conspiring with Reid and others to cause an explosion which threatened life or property.
He also faces two other charges of having explosives. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again on December 11.
Badat was arrested on November 27 at his home in Gloucester, southwest England, and was charged on Wednesday.
Reid, a 29-year-old from London, was sentenced to life in prison last January after being convicted of trying to blow up an airliner carrying 197 passengers between Paris and New York in December 2001.
Prosecutors accused Reid of attempting to blow up the aircraft with explosives hidden in his shoes.
Anti-terrorism police have carried out a number of raids in central and southern England in the last week, arresting more than 20 people.
