A 2-year-old boy on holiday with his family in Turkey was killed when a shooting broke out in a restaurant as he slept in his baby carriage.

Alistair Grimason from East Kilbride, near Glasgow, was found dead by his mother, Ozlem, after a lone gunman opened fire on three other men while the family ate a meal in the village of Foca, near Ismir, on the west coast.

"Ozlem was in a restaurant with her mother and other friends when an argument broke out at another table between four men," the boy's uncle, Mark Grimason, told the UK's Press Association.

"One of the men opened fire on the other three. When the gunfire went off the restaurant was evacuated and only then did Ozlem spot blood on the pram.

"Alistair had been hit and he was dead."

It is understood police in Turkey are still hunting the gunman while the three men injured in Monday night's shooting are believed to be critical in hospital, said the Press Association.

Grimason described his nephew as "totally placid, good-natured and all smiling."

Alistair's father, David, 31, headed back to Turkey to be with his wife. He had returned to Scotland only on Friday after spending two weeks with Ozlem, 27, and Alistair in Turkey.

Ozlem had been planning to spend a further four weeks in Turkey with Alistair before returning home to her computing job at Glasgow University.

Her family owns a holiday home in Foca, which Grimason described as a peaceful area.
