Spain foils drug killing plot
MADRID, Spain -- Spanish police say they have smashed a plot by a Colombian drug-trafficking gang to kill the public prosecutor leading a case against the group's leader. The gang would have paid assassins $50,000 to murder the prosecutor and $100,000 to kill two lawyers and two reformed criminals who were expected to testify against the imprisoned leader, Reuters reported police as saying. A lawyer and two prison officials had also been charged for their alleged involvement in the plot, police said on Friday. Five Colombians and two Venezuelans, including the alleged assassins, were arrested, police said.
