LONDON, England -- Five men have been charged with conspiracy to kidnap Victoria Beckham, pop star wife of England soccer captain David Beckham.
The men, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested following an alleged kidnap attempt on November 2, 2002.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan police said on Friday: "Officers from the Kidnap and Special Investigations Unit have fully investigated the allegation of a conspiracy to kidnap Victoria Beckham.
"Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, it has been decided that they will be charged with the offence of conspiracy to kidnap Victoria Beckham."
Sources said the former Spice Girl and her Manchester United player husband, David Beckham, had been informed of the decision.
