Sao Paulo 'best city to work in'
SAO PAULO, Brazil -- The Brazilian metropolis of Sao Paulo is the best city in Latin America to do business in, according to Latin American business travellers. According to a survey released on Wednesday by regional business monthly Latin Trade, Sao Paulo, South America's biggest city, was far ahead of its nearest rival, Mexico City. Greater Sao Paulo has a population of 18 million and is the centre of Brazilian industry and finance. "Businesses are up to speed on all that is new," one of the 70,000 business travellers in the survey said about Sao Paulo. "It's home to big corporations. Everyone is there," another said. While Sao Paulo was voted the best city to work in, Mexico City and Buenos Aires were considered the best to eat and sleep in. The Four Seasons in Mexico City and the Alvear Palace Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, were both ranked as great hotels for business travellers. The opulent Alvear Palace Hotel's pampering facilities and state of the art technology business centre made it the joint top business hotel, the poll said. The Four Seasons was also considered to have excellent work facilities. The top restaurant was Mexican -- the Hacienda de Los Morales in Mexico City. But Sao Paulo won the honours for the best restaurant chain, Rubaiyat, known for grilled meat. American Airlines, the No. 1 U.S. air carrier, took the prize for the best airline, largely on the strength of its extensive route system. But the best in-flight food was on LanChile, which was particularly praised for its fine list of Chilean wines. Anhembi Park in Sao Paulo was named as the best conference centre, the Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez in Santiago, Chile, was chosen as the best airport and LanChile's Pablo Neruda Lounge, also in Santiago, was listed as the best airport lounge. Sao Paulo was founded on January 25, 1554. A small village until the 17th century, the city grew fast with the influx of European immigrants in the 19th century.
