LONDON, England -- Police have arrested a man in connection with the discovery of body parts in rubbish bags in north London.

Anthony John Hardy of Camden, north London, was being questioned over the deaths of two women whose remains were found near his home.

Hardy, 51, was arrested near a London hospital following a tip from a member of the public.

Detectives had issued his photograph, and he was first spotted at another London hospital trying to get medication for diabetes.

Hardy, who had shaved off his beard, spent four hours at the first hospital but left after staff tried to talk him into going to a hostel for the homeless.

Police had been looking for a woman last seen with Hardy on December 26 but said there had been at least two recent sightings of her.

Detectives were still asking anyone who had seen the woman, Kelly Anne Nicol, 24, of Falkirk, Scotland, to call police "so that we can be satisfied that she is safe and well."

Police launched their investigation after a tramp found body parts in a rubbish bag behind a pub in Camden. Other body parts in rubbish bags were found nearby.

Officials have not identified the two victims, believed to be a woman in her 30s and a woman in her late teens or early 20s. Some body parts are still missing.
