5 dead in Karachi bus shooting

Story Tools

(CNN) -- Gunmen riding a motorcycle have killed at least five people after opening fire on a bus carrying Shiite Muslim worshippers in the Pakistani city of Karachi, police say.

The bus was carrying the worshippers to midday prayers Friday when the attackers opened fire with a machine gun.

Eight people were wounded in the attack, police told CNN, adding there had been no immediate claim of responsibility.

News of the shooting came shortly after reports of another attack, in the north of the country, when assailants fired a rocket at a train killing the conductor and wounding four others.

That attack Friday morning occurred in the town of Much, about 150 km (92 miles) east of the city of Quetta.

The Karachi shooting is the latest in a series of attacks to shake the southern port city.

Last week 11 people were wounded when a bomb went off aboard a passenger bus in the center of the city.
