Pakistan appoints envoy to India

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan says it has appointed its foreign ministry spokesman as its new ambassador to India.
Aziz Ahmed Khan previously served as ambassador to Afghanistan.
India recently appointed Shivshankar Menon -- who had been India's ambassador to China -- envoy to Islamabad.
The nuclear-armed neighbors have not had representatives in each other's country for almost a year and a half.
But the appointments mark a softening in relations between the two countries.
The news comes a day after New Delhi said it was resuming bus services with Pakistan.
India expelled Pakistani diplomats and cut transportation links with its northern neighbor after an attack on its parliament in 2001.
It blamed Islamabad for helping militants in that attack, a charge Pakistan denied.
