LAHORE, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistani authorities arrested a suspected al Qaeda operative Saturday in the eastern city of Lahore, according to a spokesman for the Pakistani Interior Ministry.
Pakistani security forces apprehended an unarmed Yasser al Jazeeri, a Moroccan national, in a public place at about 8 p.m. (10 a.m. ET) without incident.
At the same time, authorities arrested a Pakistani man, Noorani said. He did not provide any details on the second man.
Noorani characterized al Jazeeri as an operative of some importance that Pakistan had been tracking.
He also said that information came from a combination of intelligence sources, including information gleaned from material seized during the arrest of top al Qaeda operative Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.
Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the September 11 attacks, was arrested March 1 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
CNN Islamabad Bureau Chief Ash-Har Qurashi contributed this report.
