Kabul hotel hit by mortar shell
KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A loud explosion shook guests in the Intercontinental Hotel early Saturday evening and a mortar shell had struck the hotel's perimeter wall, Afghan police said.
No injuries were reported.
The wall is about 300 meters from the hotel building itself. Police officers secured the area and were searching for clues.
The Intercontinental is next door to the building where the loya jirga, Afghanistan's ruling council, holds its meetings.
The loya jirga was not in session, and police said the hotel appeared to be the target of the explosion.
