The bus, carrying more than 50 people, fell off a cliff on a mountain road into a 490 foot-deep gorge, in the mining region of Cerro de Pasco in central Peru, police said.
"There were 19 deaths, including children," police spokesman Luis Rojas told Reuters.
The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m local time on a highway about 185 miles northwest of the capital Lima, injuring more than 30 passengers who were taken to nearby hospitals, police said.
Police said they were working to pull the bus out of the gorge, where 24 people died two years ago in a similar accident.
