Tornado hits New Jersey town

Story Tools

(CNN) -- A tornado touched down in Mercer County, New Jersey, north of Trenton Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The twister, estimated to be about 1/4 mile wide, partially tore off the roofs of a Wal-Mart and a Comp USA at an area shopping center, said Sgt. Robert Garofalo of the West Windsor Police Department.

It then passed through Lawrence and Ewing townships, according to meteorologist Joe Miketta at the Mt. Holly office of the NWS.
