(CNN) -- The search will continue on Saturday for a mother and her child who went missing after floodwaters swept their home off its foundation and into a creek in Frankfort, Kentucky, killing her son, according to Franklin County officials.
The body of the boy, who is estimated to be 5 or 6 years old, was found along the banks of Stony Creek around 6:30 p.m. ET, according to Franklin County's deputy coroner, Jerry Lamb.
Stacy Floden, a spokeswoman for the state Emergency Management Services, said the home was washed away in sudden flash flooding.
"It was just about an hour and a half of very strong rain, lightning and thunder," she said.
Authorities have sent out a canine unit and other ground searchers to try to find the mother and child. A water team is also combing the creek, Floden said.
There were no other reports of injuries or fatalities in Franklin County as a result of the storm.
