Flash floods kill 100 in India

NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- At least 100 people were killed in northern India when a flash flood swept through a make-shift tent site where laborers were sleeping, local police say.
A sudden downpour during India's monsoon season flooded the area on Wednesday in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
The laborers were building a tunnel through a mountain near the popular summer resort town of Kulu, as part of a hydro-power project.
Local officials said at least 30 people had been rescued in the flooding.
India's monsoon season begins in mid-June and lasts until the end of July.
Hundreds of deaths have been recorded already this season, while more than 7 million people have been stranded or made homeless by flooding and landslides.
Most of the deaths have been in the northeastern state of Assam where rising water levels have cut off about 3 million people.
In neighboring Bangladesh, over 2 million people are marooned from raging rivers and more than 100 have died.
In some areas, there are food and drink shortages while water borne diseases are spreading.
