(CNN) -- A roughly 2,000-gallon oil spill from a barge being refueled in Puget Sound has been contained and was being cleaned up Tuesday morning, Coast Guard officials in Seattle, Washington, said.
Petty Officer Rob Lanier, a Coast Guard spokesman, said the spill was reported about 12:15 a.m. (3:15 a.m. ET) from a Chevron asphalt plant in Point Wells, about 10 miles north of Seattle.
"They've contained it, and they're still working on it right now," Lanier said. The spill poses no threat to water supplies or fisheries, he said.
The heavy fuel was being pumped onto the tank barge from a pier at the Chevron plant when it spilled, Lanier said. Two oil skimmers were being used to get the oil off the water's surface.
