MODESTO, California (CNN) -- The home of missing pregnant woman Laci Peterson was broken into in recent days, authorities said Monday.

Modesto police spokesman Doug Ridenour called the break-in "bizarre" but said it had no connection to the disappearance of Peterson, who has been missing since December 24.

Police said nothing of significance was taken from the home.

"Sometime between Thursday and Sunday, the home of Scott and Laci Peterson had been broken into," a Modesto police statement said. "Scott Peterson reported the burglary on Sunday around 7:45 p.m. Police are not revealing the details of the burglary or what was taken."

The statement went on to say that police do not believe the burglary was connected to Laci's disappearance.

Authorities responded to a report of a break-in after Peterson returned to the home Sunday night after he had been gone a couple of days.

Peterson had been in Los Angeles earlier Sunday to set up a volunteer effort to find his missing wife. (Full story)

Last week police told members of Laci Peterson's family that Scott might have been having an affair and was photographed with another woman days before his wife vanished.

Kim Petersen, a spokeswoman for the missing woman's family, said Modesto police showed the family the photographs Wednesday, before they were published in a national tabloid magazine.

"The family is asking Scott to tell everything he knows and to fully cooperate with the Modesto Police Department," Petersen said. "And if Scott has nothing to hide, they ask him to prove that."

Scott Peterson has said allegations he was having an affair are "a bunch of lies."

Police have not named Peterson as a suspect in his wife's disappearance, but they have not ruled out anyone.

Laci Peterson was last reported seen Christmas Eve, when her husband said he bid her good-bye as he left for a solo fishing trip 85 miles away from the couple's home. Laci is due to deliver a baby boy February 10.

A source close to Laci Peterson's family said police told them that Scott took out a $250,000 life insurance policy on his wife shortly after the couple learned she was pregnant last summer.

Scott Peterson's family is standing behind him and brushing aside suggestions that he might have been involved in foul play.

"Our family is committed to and will remain focused on our search," said Janey Peterson, who is married to Scott Peterson's brother. "From the beginning, Scott's No. 1 priority has been the safe return of his wife and child, and that remains unchanged."

Joe Peterson, Scott's older brother, said the allegations have taken a visible toll.

"He's got good days and bad days, mostly bad days, but he's staying focused and staying strong because of the support that he's getting," Joe Peterson said.

While the speculation is difficult, he said, "it's harder knowing he doesn't have his wife and his baby. That's harder than the speculation. We can't do anything about that other information that gets out there."
