LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (Reuters) -- John Haley, a Little Rock attorney who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor after being swept up in the Whitewater investigation of former President Clinton, was killed Thursday in the crash of his private plane, his family said Saturday.
Haley, 72, and his passenger, Farish Kincaid, 70, of north Little Rock, were killed in the crash. They had been flying to a business meeting in northwest Arkansas, the family said.
Haley was a tax attorney for Jim Guy Tucker, who succeeded Clinton as governor of Arkansas in 1992. Tucker, Haley and a third man entered guilty pleas in a tax avoidance case in a fraudulent bankruptcy scheme. Investigators found no connection with that case and Clinton.
Tucker was convicted of an earlier charge of fraud and conspiracy in the Whitewater investigation.
Haley's plea bargain with Whitewater prosecutors, in 1998, reduced his offense to a misdemeanor and allowed him to keep his law license. He was assessed $70,000 in fines and penalties.
