2 killed in Georgia plane crash
(CNN) -- Two people were killed Thursday night when their small plane crashed in heavy fog into a wooded area near Moreland, Georgia, about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta, officials said.
Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager said it's believed the two were the only people aboard the aircraft, which he described as a turboprop.
"It's a mess, just a big ball of fire right now," the sheriff said.
A homeowner in the area reported to the sheriff's department that he or she had seen a plane flying very low just before 8 p.m. but did not see it crash.
A spokesman for the Coweta County emergency dispatch center said the plane crashed close to the Newnan-Coweta Airport.
Yeager said the occupants of the plane had filed a flight plan from Douglas, Georgia, to Coweta. He said he believed the victims were from the Coweta area.
A spokeswoman for the Coweta County Sheriff's Department said the aircraft went down in a wooded area behind one home, but the home was not damaged
