(CNN) -- A couple was charged with manslaughter Wednesday in Clarksville, Arkansas, after their 10-year-old daughter died in a fire in their house. The girl was unable to escape because she was chained to her bed, authorities said.
The fire was reported in a 911 call around 12:45 a.m. (1:45 a.m. EST) Monday, according to Johnson County Sheriff Wesley Kendrick. When firefighters and sheriff's deputies arrived, Lloyd Holt, Teresa Dick and their two other children were outside of the house, which was already "burned to the ground," Kendrick said.
"There are several sheriff's department personnel and some firefighters still having a hard time with this," Kendrick told CNN in a phone interview.
After the site had cooled down, investigators found a chain with a padlock secured to a bed, Kendrick said. They also found Molly Holt's remains.
At their arraignment hearing, Holt and Dick were appointed a public defender and ordered held in the Johnson County Detention Center on bail of $100,000 each.
Kendrick said the Arkansas State Police are assisting in the investigation, and the couple's two remaining children have been sent to live with relatives. The sheriff said it's not known why Molly was chained to her bed.
Johnson County Prosecutor Bruce Wilson said the reason was part of the investigation.
"We're not disclosing any of that information at this point," Wilson said in a phone interview with CNN.
