WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Four people were killed when a small plane crashed on takeoff from Greensburg Jeannette Regional Airport in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The plane, a Cessna 205, took off at 1:15 p.m. for a skydiving operation, said Arlene Salac, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration's Eastern Region.
Salac said four of the five people on board were killed. CNN affiliate KDKA reported that the fifth person was taken to Mercy Hospital.
The plane "overran the runway and traveled down an embankment," said Paul Schlamm, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, which was sending an investigator to the scene.
The FAA was sending inspectors from its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Flight Standards Office to the site.
