Police car hits, kills GE striker

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (CNN) -- A police car struck and killed a woman picketing Tuesday at General Electric's Appliance Park in Kentucky in what Jefferson County police said was an accident.

A woman employee was picketing with other workers as part of a two-day strike protesting an increase in health care co-payments. (Full story)

She was struck while walking from one plant gate to another by a Hollow Creek police car, police said.

The woman was hit at 5 a.m. EST. Her identity has not been released, but a police spokesman described her as a white female in her early 40s. Police are investigating.

Hollow Creek is a small town in the Louisville metro area.
