Previous Beech 1900 crashes
At least one passenger died in the following accidents involving Beech 1900 aircraft. • November 23, 1987 -- A Ryan Air Service Beech 1900 crashed on final approach to Homer, Alaska, after a flight from Kodiak. An investigation determined the aircraft's cargo load was not properly balanced. Both crew members and 16 of the 19 passengers were killed. • May 18, 1990 -- An engine failed in an Aerolift Philippines Beech 1900 in Manila, Philippines, just after takeoff and the plane crashed into a residential area. Both crew members and all 19 passengers died. • January 3, 1992 -- A US Air Express (Commutair) Beech 1900 hit high ground on approach to a runway at Gabriel, New York, because of "precipitation static" affecting a landing indicator. One crew member and one passenger died. • July 30, 1998 -- A Proteus Air Beech 1900 was flying to Lorient, France, to Lyon when it collided with a Cessna about a mile off the coast. Both crew members and all 12 passengers were killed. The Cessna's pilot was killed. • November 19, 1996 -- Just after landing at Qincy, Illinois, a United Express (Great Lakes Aviation) Beech 1900 was struck by a twin-engine Beech King Air that was departing on an intersecting runway. Both crew members and all 10 passengers on the Beech 1900 were killed as were the two occupants of the King Air. The airport did not have a control tower.
