(CNN) -- At least two students were critically injured Wednesday in a school bus accident in southern Illinois, state police said.
All 15 students on the bus as well as the driver were injured.
Two students were airlifted to a hospital in Springfield, Illinois, and the others were driven to local hospitals, said Greg Nimmo, 911 director of Montgomery County, Illinois.
State police said a Vandalia School District bus was traveling at about 7:30 a.m. through an intersection of rural roads in Montgomery County when the driver lost control and the bus crashed into an embankment.
No other vehicles were involved, state police said.
The area, near the communities of Fillmore and Van Burensburg, is about 60 miles northeast of St. Louis, Nimmo said.
