WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday announced the voluntary recall of about 30,000 electric scooters and 55,000 electric mini-bikes manufactured by Fisher Price, because the vehicles continue to run after the power button is released.
The recall affects the Fisher Price Lightning PAC Scooters and MX3 mini-bikes.
Fisher Price has received reports of at least 56 incidents involving the scooter, including reports of a chipped tooth and a broken arm. There have been 24 reports of problems with the mini-bike, including one report of a leg laceration.
"Nobody has been killed or seriously injured yet, but that's the reason we're doing the recall to make sure that doesn't happen," said CPSC Chairman Hal Stratton. "Any recall we do we would like to do it before anybody gets seriously injured, that's the goal."
Both products are battery-powered ride-on toys for children ages 6 and older.
The scooter being recalled has the model number 73530 or 73535 and the mini-bike model is B2222. The model numbers can be found inside the battery compartment on both.
The scooters were sold at stores nationwide between November 2001 and October 2003 for about $250. The mini-bikes were sold between May and September 2003 for about $200.
The CPSC said parents should immediately take the toys away from children. Fisher-Price is offering free service of the vehicles to correct the problem at a Power Wheels Service Center. Consumers can contact Fisher-Price at 800 528-7153 or log on to www.service.mattel.com.
