WASHINGTON (CNN) -- One U.S. soldier was killed and four others injured Thursday in a vehicle accident in Kuwait, U.S. military officials said.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. (8 a.m. EST) when the five soldiers were driving in a Humvee near Camp Arifjan, which is about 30 miles south of Kuwait City. Officials said an investigation has been launched.

Officials in Kuwait would not comment further, but they said they were treating it as an accident. It is believed to have involved a rollover

The four injured soldiers were evacuated from the scene and treated for injuries. One was transported to the Kuwait Armed Forces Hospital, and three were taken to the medical clinic at Camp Arifjan.

The military does not plan to release the names of the injured, and the identity of the soldier who died is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
