Bush cyber security czar going to eBay
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The White House cybersecurity adviser, Howard Schmidt, is leaving his position Thursday. He took over the job two months ago from Richard Clarke. Both men helped oversee the recent federal plan to secure cyberspace. Schmidt announced his resignation on April 21. During an interview with CNN on Thursday, Schmidt revealed that he will be returning to the private sector as eBay's chief security officer. The Internet site eBay is the top online auction service. Schmidt says he is confident about the government's decision to shift many cybersecurity duties to the Office of Homeland Security, adding that his decision to leave was an "amicable" one. Schmidt's post likely will be rolled into the OHS. He says that although many advances have been made to secure the Internet and its infrastructure, much work still must be done at all levels of government. Schmidt has previously held the position of chief security officer at Microsoft, and he has spent time with the U.S. Air Force, the FBI and worked as a city police officer in Arizona.
