Halloween's over but the chills continue
By Josh Zelman
(CNN) -- It's "the scariest game I ever played." That's Dan "Shoe" Hsu, editor in chief of Electronic Gaming Monthly talking about "Fatal Frame." The sequel to this thriller is coming out later this month, and Shoe tells me it's definitely going to get the blood pumping. In "Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly," twins stumble upon a location where an ancient ritual took place. It's the event's anniversary and the sisters watch the ceremony go down. Sounds innocent enough at first -- until one realizes that during the initial ritual one of the twins murdered the other. Shoe isn't calling this a "psycho horror" game for nothing. Shoe says that during the action you'll hear sounds and it won't be clear where they're coming from, and you'll see images and won't be sure what they are. Gamers will wonder if someone, or something, is following them around -- such as the ghost of the slain sister. If a ghost is on your trail, the only weapon you have to defend yourself is camera. Snapping photos of the spirits makes them vaporize. Shoe tells me "the closer they get the more powerful" your camera becomes; but so is the fear factor. He says when a poltergeist almost touches you it creates quite a bit of tension. Check out "Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly" on the PlayStation 2.
