PARIS, France -- Thierry Henry has finally picked up an end of year award after finishing runner-up for both world and European player of the year honors.
The Arsenal striker was named French Player of the Year by France Football magazine, finishing ahead of FIFA World Player of the Year winner Zinedine Zidane.
Monaco playmaker Ludovic Giuly was third on the list, voted for by former winners of the award.
"It's a nice feeling to finish ahead of Zidane and also to be recognized by so many former players," said Henry, who also won the award in 2000.
Among those who voted for Henry were former French greats Michel Platini and Jean-Pierre Papin.
"To know that they appreciate what I am doing is a great feeling," Henry added.
The 26-year-old scored 42 goals in 64 matches for Arsenal and France this year.
As well as missing out to Zidane for the world award, Henry failed to collect the European Golden Ball, also awarded by France Football. That honor went to Czech playmaker Pavel Nedved of Juventus.
