Keegan's City face striker crisis
LONDON, England -- Struggling Manchester City have just three fit front-line strikers after selling Darren Huckerby and then learning that Costa Rican Paolo Wanchope faces two months out of action because of a knee injury.
"We have lost Paulo Wanchope for eight weeks. He is going to America to have his cartilage done," said manager Kevin Keegan who hinted that the club may be forced into the market when the transfer window opens in January.
Huckerby has finally agreed a move to English first division leaders Norwich City.
It leaves Keegan with Nicolas Anelka, Robbie Fowler and Jon Macken to share the striking duties.
"We possibly need to loan a forward if we can't buy one. The only one we want to get in is a striker of quality.
"But it is hard to know at the moment and I will have to discuss with the board what money is available so I can't say anything more at the moment," said Keegan.
The 27-year-old Wanchope was also struck down by a knee injury last season but fought his way back and had made seventeen appearances this time round scoring two goals.
Keegan's future as Manchester City boss looked even bleaker after his team squandered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at Birmingham.
It was Birmingham's first home win in three months while Manchester are now marooned in 15th spot, just three points off the relegation zone as their miserable run was stretched to just two points from the last 21.
