Souness all set for January sales
BLACKBURN, England -- Blackburn Rovers coach Graeme Souness is preparing to spend in the January sales in a bid to keep his side out of the English Premier League relegation battle.
Blackburn, who are currently just one point above the drop zone, have been hurt by injuries to David Thompson and Steven Reid and the summer sale of Damien Duff to Chelsea.
"We've got certain targets and we are looking at them," said Souness, whose team plays Middlesbrough on Friday.
"We have a few irons in the fire."
But Souness admitted he was no closer to completing a deal for U.S. striker Brian McBride, currently with MLS side Columbus Crew.
McBride impressed during a loan spell at Everton last season and has also played for Preston.
"We have been asked a different fee to what Everton and Preston paid," said Souness.
"That's why we have not pursued it any more but we will see what happens."
