FIFA drug bans for youth offenders
ZURICH, Switzerland -- Two players who tested positive for banned substances at this month's World Youth Championship have received lengthy bans from world governing body FIFA.
Egyptian defender Amir Azmy, who tested positive for nandrolone, received a 14-month ban while German goalkeeper Alexander Walke was banned for seven months after testing for the active ingredient in cannibis, THC.
Both players have three days to appeal the ban, which covers all club and international matches.
Azmy, who plays for Egyptian side Zamalek, is suspended until February 2005, while Werder Bremen keeper Walke is banned until July 2004.
