Pleat staying in charge for season

Story Tools

LONDON, England -- Tottenham director of football David Pleat and first team coach Chris Hughton will remain in charge of the team until the end of the season.

Pleat was put in caretaker charge of the Premier League side after Glenn Hoddle was sacked in September following a poor run of results.

Together with former player Hughton, he has steered Spurs away from the relegation zone into 12th place in the standings.

Hoddle was dismissed after Spurs won only one of their opening six league games. Since then, they have lost three times in 12 games and reached the quarterfinals of the League Cup.

"I am pleased to announce today that David Pleat and Chris Hughton will continue in their current positions until the end of the season," chairman Daniel Levy said at the club's annual general meeting.

"This will give the club the degree of continuity it needs until we make our most important managerial appointment. We will make that appointment in the summer.

"We are currently competitive in the league and in both cup competitions. We have everything to play for."
