'New Maradona' Tevez fit for Boca
YOKOHAMA, Japan -- Boca Juniors star Carlos Tevez has been cleared to play in Sunday's Intercontinental Cup clash with European champions AC Milan.
Tevez, dubbed the "new Maradona," has been sidelined since early November with a knee problem.
But Boca coach Carlos Bianchi said: "He's not perfect yet but he's physically ok. He can play on Sunday."
Tevez, 20, was crucial in the Argentine giants' victorious Copa Libertadores campaign, in which they beat Brazilian side Santos in the final.
Boca are making their fourth appearance in the annual clash between the champions of Europe and South America. They last won in 2000, beating Real Madrid. A year later they lost to Bayern Munich.
Bianchi said he expected a tough match against Milan.
"AC Milan have many great players. Their strikers are able to break through a tight defensive line and they are very dangerous. That's why they became European champions."
Milan, who won back-to-back titles in 1989 and 1990, are making their first appearance since losing to Argentina's Velez Sarsfield in the 1994 final.
"It's an honor to be playing for the title of No. 1 in the world," said AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti.
"Boca has many unique players but they play well together as a team."
