Another Belgian win for Anderlecht
BRUSSELS, Belgium (Reuters) -- A goal from Ivica Mornar was enough to earn Anderlecht a 1-0 win over Genk on Saturday and maintain their lead at the top of the Belgian first division.
Mornar headed home on the stroke of halftime from a cross by Aruna Dindane after he intercepted a pass from Genk defender Soley Seyfo.
Genk had the better first half but once Anderlecht took the lead they comfortably controlled the match.
Anderlecht have 40 points, eight ahead of Standard Liege, who beat champions Club Bruges 3-1 on Friday. Genk are third on 27 points.
Emile Mpenza opened the scoring for Standard on 14 minutes and midfielder Almani Moreira added a second goal six minutes later.
Standard had more opportunities to score but had to wait until the last five minutes before substitute Papy Kimoto wrapped up the match.
Timmy Simons scored a 79th-minute penalty for Bruges, who face Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League on Tuesday.
