Monaco and Lyon both win in France
MARSEILLE, France -- Monaco won 2-1 at Marseille to stay six points ahead in the French league and pile on further misery for Alain Perrin's side who are stumbling in European and on the domestic front.
Ahmed Hossam Mido's 44th minute goal put Marseille ahead but Sebastien Squillaci levelled on 58 minutes and Ludovic Giuly fired in what proved to be Monaco's winner.
Second-placed Lyon beat Metz 2-1 earlier on Friday night to keep pace with Monaco at the top of the table.
Goals in either half by Peguy Luyindula and Edmilson banished memories of their squandered chance to keep up the pressure on Didier Deschamps' buoyant Monaco side when losing 3-1 to Rennes a week ago.
Visitors Metz opened their account when unmarked striker Jonathan Jager headed in a cross from the right from Toifilou Maoulida after 20 minutes.
But Lyon reacted swiftly to find the equaliser six minutes later when Luyindula netted a cross from Anthony Reveillere.
Four minutes after the break Edmilson put Lyon ahead from a corner on the left from Juninho.
Metz kept up the pressure, but Elber missed a chance for a third for the home side when his header from a Vikash Dhorasoo cross from the right missed the net in stoppage time. The loss left Metz stuck fourth from bottom.
PSG, in third spot nine points behind Monaco, have a chance to claw back some of that deficit with a trip to Brittany club Rennes on Saturday.
