LONDON, England (CNN) -- AC Milan retain the top spot in the CNN/World Soccer Top 10 poll this week, after a 2-0 defeat of Modena at the San Siro put them level on points with Serie A leaders Roma, who have a better goal difference.

Milan, already through to the second stage of the Champions League, also progressed in the Italian Cup this week and led this week's poll ahead of Spanish league leaders Real Madrid.

English Premiership leaders Chelsea, who were not in last week's list, have shot into third position after Frank Lampard's penalty gave them 1-0 league victory over champions Manchester United, who have slipped two places to sixth.

Roma, now at the top of Serie A ahead of Milan on goal difference following their 3-1 win over Lecce, have moved into the rankings at number nine.

Ronaldo's first minute goal and a second effort from Raul sent Real Madrid to the top of the Primera Liga with a 2-0 win in the Madrid derby against Atletico.

Cruzeiro are the top South American side after rising a place to seventh and Boca Juniors drop to 10th.

The weekly CNN/World Soccer Top 10 is compiled by staff from CNN's World Sport show along with the team at World Soccer magazine.
