PARIS, France -- Borussia Dortmund have been dumped out of the UEFA Cup after being thrashed 4-0 in France by Sochaux.
The 1997 European champions, who had Salvatore Gambino sent off in the first five minutes, were undone by goals from Pierre-Alain Frau, Santos, Wilson Oruma and Jeremy Mathieu.
The Bundesliga club, who are currently fifth in their league table, were undone 6-2 on aggregate after their 2-2 first leg draw in Germany.
Sochaux had the perfect start when Gambino -- on his 20th birthday -- pulled down striker Santos in the Dortmund area.
He was sent off and Frau scored from the penalty spot.
Dortmund in 2002, felt they should have had a similar penalty when striker Jan Koller had his shirt pulled in the area. Koller was booked shortly before halftime for protesting the decision.
Sochaux dominated the second half and midfielder Mathieu hit the Dortmund post before Santos made the most of a breakaway by chipping goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller for their second goal in the 67th minute.
Oruma scored the third after Weidenfeller blocked Frau in the area and the Nigerian midfielder hit home the rebound from 25 metres.
Embarrassment was heaped on Dortmund in the final minutes when defender Stefan Reuter slipped in the area to give the ball to Mathieu six metres out and he netted his side's fourth.
