Struggling Espanyol sack Clemente
MADRID, Spain (Reuters) -- Espanyol sacked their coach Javier Clemente on Tuesday and appointed Luis Fernandez in his place, the Spanish club announced on their Web site.
Espanyol are bottom of the Primera Liga standings with five points from 10 games following their 2-0 defeat at home to Real Zaragoza at the weekend.
Clemente, the former Spanish national team coach, had been in charge at Espanyol since midway through last season, when he came in and saved the side from relegation.
Fernandez, the former Paris St Germain coach, will lead his first training session at the club on Wednesday, Espanyol said.
