Dortmund shine as Leverkusen stall

BERLIN, Germany -- Bayer Leverkusen wasted the chance to return to the top of the Bundesliga with a 0-0 draw at Kaiserslautern, while fourth-placed Borussia Dortmund scored three times in five minutes to beat Hamburg 3-2.

Hamburg seemed to have sealed three points in Dortmund when Bernardo Romeo scored on 60 minutes, adding to Bastian Reinhardt's early goal.

But Czech striker Jan Koller struck back on 64 minutes, added the equalizer from the penalty spot two minutes later, and Brazilian Ewerthon grabbed the winner soon after.

"We were a bit unlucky to find ourselves trailing 2-0 but the way we fought back was great," said Dortmund coach Mathias Sammer, whose squad was depleted by injuries to 11 players.

"The injury situation is so bad that the only thing I can do is to give younger players a chance."

Leverkusen coach Klaus Augenthaler, whose side had won their last four matches, admitted his team had not found their best form in a tight match at Kaiserslautern.

"We were not at our best today," said Augenthaler. "It really could have gone either way but sometimes you have to be satisfied with a draw. I think it's a fair result."

Brazilian midfielder Robson Ponte came closest for the visitors, hitting the post on 49 minutes but Leverkusen goalkeeper Hans-Joerg Butt had to make two brilliant stops to deny Kaiserslautern's Bulgarian midfielder Marian Hristov.

Leverkusen trail Bundesliga leaders Stuttgart -- who beat Freiburg 4-1 on Saturday -- by one point.
