Inter Milan coach Cuper is sacked
MILAN, Italy (Reuters) -- Inter Milan have sacked their Argentine coach Hector Cuper. The Italian Serie A club broke the news on their official website on Sunday. He came under increasing pressure after Inter lost the derby game against city rivals AC Milan last week. On Saturday Inter trailed 11th-placed Brescia 2-0 before snatching a draw with Christian Vieri's late penalty. "The club would like to thank the Argentine coach, his assistant Oscar Armando Cavallero and athletic trainer Juan Manuel Alfano for their work done, ' said Inter's statement. "Corrado Verdelli will take charge of the first team for Tuesday's Champions League match away to Lokomotiv Moscow." Cuper joined Inter three years ago but, despite making a number of high-profile signings, failed to bring in trophies, although he guided the team to the semifinals of the Champions League. Inter currently lie sixth in the table, seven points behind leaders Juventus. Before his move to Milan Cuper took Spanish side Valencia to the Champions League finals in 2000 and 2001.
