Gadhafi relinquishes Juventus post
ROME, Italy -- Saadi Gadhafi has stepped down as a Juventus director so he can play for Perugia in the Italian Serie A.
The son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi signed for Perugia in one of the summer's most intriguing transfers, although he is yet to appear in an official match for the provincial club.
Italian league rules do not allow players to be on the board of one club and play for another.
After Juventus announced that Gadhafi had withdrawn from their board, he appeared on Perugia's substitutes' bench for an Italian Cup match in Cesena. He was not brought on during the tie, which Perugia won 2-1.
The state-owned Libyan Arab Foreign Investment Company, or Lafico, considered the financial arm of Gadhafi's government, still holds a 7.5 percent stake in Juventus, which is controlled by the Agnelli family of auto tycoons.
Gadhafi was invited by honorary Juventus president Umberto Agnelli to join the Turin team's board in June of last year.
Perugia spokesman Paolo Giovagnoni said that Gadhafi had been suffering from a back injury but had now recovered. "He's taken part in the last five practices," Giovagnoni added.
Perugia are at home to Reggina in the Serie A on Sunday.
