Bayern fearful of influenza virus
MUNICH, Germany -- German champions Bayern Munich fear an influenza virus will decimate their team for crucial Bundesliga and Champions League matches. England midfielder Owen Hargreaves and Peru's Claudio Pizarro were unable train on Wednesday and coach Ottmar Hitzfeld admitted: "Two or three other players also have problems." Both are now doubtful starters for Saturday's Bundesliga game at Hansa Rostock. "We must be careful the virus does not decimate the entire team," added Hitzfeld. He has already been working with a depleted squad after midfielders Sebastian Deisler, Jens Jeremies and Mehmet Scholl were sidelined through injury. But playmaker Michael Ballack, who had been bothered by a groin strain, was able to resume training on Wednesday and should play at the weekend. The German champions are fifth in the table after six games, three points behind leaders VfB Stuttgart after an indifferent start to the season. They beat Scottish side Celtic 2-1 in their opening match in the Champions League.
