DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- European No. 1 Ernie Els will challenge world No. 1 Tiger Woods at golf's Dubai Desert Classic in March.
The South African, ranked No. 3 in the world, is the only man to have won two Desert Classic titles and holds the course record with a 61.
"I think everyone knows I love playing in Dubai," Els said.
"I like the lines off the tees and the greens are quite soft so if you get your ball up you can shoot some good scores."
Mohammed Ali Alabbar, chairman of Dubai's organizing committee, said: "With Els and Woods in the lineup I think it's safe to say that the tournament will be the biggest and best in its 15-year history.
"It seems fitting they should come together in Dubai in a year when we celebrate our 15th anniversary and offer the largest prize-money fund in the Classic's history."
The winner will take home $333,330 from a prize fund worth $2 million.
The tournament takes place from March 4-7.
