Goetschl sets pace in Switzerland
ST. MORITZ, Switzerland -- Austria's Renate Goetschl set the fastest time in training ahead of Saturday's women's World Cup downhill in St. Moritz.
Olympic bronze medalist Goetschl clocked 1 minute, 41.32 seconds on the Corviglia course, 0.77 seconds quicker than second-placed Emily Brydon of Canada.
Germany's Hilde Gerg was 0.81 seconds adrift in third place.
Goetschl won downhills at the exclusive Swiss resort in 1999 and 2001.
Overall World Cup leader Anja Paerson of Sweden, a slalom specialist, will compete in her first career downhill race on Saturday after deciding the technical nature of the course suited her style.
"I wasn't sure about the downhill coming here," she said.
"But I feel comfortable on this course. It is very technical, which suits me."
