MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO, Italy -- Austrian Nicole Hosp claimed the second World Cup win of her career with victory in Wednesday's slalom in the Italian Dolomites.
Hosp, 20, was quickest in both legs on the Canalone Miramonti course for a combined time of one minute 37.97 seconds -- 0.29 seconds ahead of overall World Cup leader Anja Paerson.
The Swede, who won Tuesday's slalom, was seeking a hat-trick of slalom victories after also winning the season-opener in Utah last month.
Marlies Schild of Austria was third in 1:38.50, having finished ahead of Paerson in her first run.
"It was very exciting today and after Anja's second run I had no choice but to attack. I felt very sure in myself today," said Hosp.
"I want to progress now, race by race and it looks like it is going to be an exciting season fighting with Anja in slalom."
Hosp won bronze in the slalom at this year's world championships. Her only previous World Cup win was in a giant slalom at Soelden last season.
Paerson still heads the slalom standings, with 280 points to Hosp's 160, and the overall World Cup standings, with 510 points to Hosp's 320.
"I am proud of myself because today I was not as mentally fit as I wanted to be," she said.
It didn't go well in the first run but I was able to do well in the second race. I'm really tired now though."
The next women's World Cup event is Saturday's downhill in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
• Canada's Erik Guay will miss the rest of the season after tearing knee ligaments on Wednesday during practice for Friday's World Cup downhill in Val Gardena.
Guay, who finished sixth in downhill and super-G at last season's world championships, was taken by helicopter to hospital for tests.
He crashed after the jump at the demanding wall that follows a long gliding section of the course, sustaining an injury to his left knee.
