CANBERRA, Australia -- Australian rugby union captain George Gregan has signed up for another year with the Wallabies.
The 30-year-old scrumhalf's future had been in doubt following Australia's defeat by England in last month's Rugby World Cup final in Sydney.
But the Australian Rugby Union said in a statement that Gregan had agreed to play for the Wallabies and Super 12's ACT Brumbies in 2004.
"Things have calmed down after the World Cup and, as I've said before, this decision was always going to be made after the tournament," said Gregan who has won 95 caps, six short of David Campese's national record.
"I'm very happy to play another year and look forward to making my best possible contribution. My next goal is performing for the Brumbies then hopefully the international season that follows."
Brumbies coach David Nucifora said: "George is a world class player who has so much more to offer to the Brumbies. He showed during the World Cup that he's still at the top of his game."
