England face struggle in Sri Lanka
KANDY, Sri Lanka -- England face a final day fight to save the second cricket Test after Tillakaratne Dilshan blasted a second innings century for Sri Lanka.
Dilshan, playing his first test in almost three years, scored 100 off 129 balls as the home side declared their second innings at 279 for seven, setting England a winning target of 368.
The tourists ended the fourth day at 89-2 following the loss of Marcus Trescothick and Mark Butcher.
Trescothick was dismissed for 14, caught in the slips off Chaminda Vaas, and Butcher managed just six before he was stumped off Muttiah Muralitharan.
But England captain Michael Vaughan was unbeaten on 50, supported by predecessor Nasser Hussain on 17 not out.
Dilshan followed his first innings 63 with another aggressive effort, sharing a 15-run fourth wicket partnership with Mahela Jaywardene (52) before being stumped off Gareth Batty.
"I was asked to go for my strokes and that's the way I like playing," he said.
"It was nice to score a century after getting out for 63 in the first innings.
"I thought I could've got a hundred in the first knock, but am glad to get a chance of making up for the disappointment this time."
Ashley Giles was once again the pick of England's bowlers, claiming three second innings wicket to finish the match with 8-217.
"It's going to be a very tough day tomorrow, but I think the boys must take heart out of the way they salvaged a draw in the first test," said England coach Duncan Fletcher. "They should be able to do the same, if not better."
