LONDON, England -- An arrest warrant has been issued for former Formula One racer Eddie Irvine after he was caught speeding through a London park on a scooter without a licence or insurance.
The 38-year-old Northern Irishman was due in court on Wednesday for sentencing following his arrest by police in Hyde Park in July, but failed to attend.
He was found guilty in his absence at a hearing last month.
When the court heard there was no contact from Irvine a warrant with bail was issued for his arrest.
Royal Parks Constabulary spokesman Theo Moore said that Irvine was stopped by police officers after being caught on a laser camera breaking a 30 miles an hour speed limit.
"Speeding in the royal parks is closely monitored and law enforced and it's not a sensible place to be exceeding the speed limit," Moore told the Press Association.
Irvine won four races during a spell as Michael Schumacher's teammate at Ferrari and also finished runner-up in the F1 drivers' championship in 1999. He quit F1 last season after three years at Jaguar.
